ENCORE FOR ACTION ON HEARING LOSS!

Leading deafness charity, Action on Hearing Loss, is Charity of the Year for Derry/Londonderry-based Encore Contemporary choir, and proceeds from their ‘Decades’ show in the Millennium Forum on 8 September will benefit local people with hearing loss.

The Decades show will feature a range of contemporary music from Abba to Adele, Glenn Millar to Coldplay, and The Beatles to Madonna.

Marie Dunne is a member of the Encore Contemporary Choir and works for Action on Hearing Loss in Derry/Londonderry. She says, “As a singer and performer I really value my hearing, so it’s great to be able to help our charity continue its vital work in changing the lives of people with hearing loss while at the same time doing what I love – singing! It promises to be a night to remember so please come along and show your support.”

Action on Hearing Loss offers a range of services in the North West including Ireland’s only specialist residential care facility for deaf people with additional needs. This unique care home on the Waterside, is complemented by a specialist outreach service, which enables past residents and others to live independently in the community with support from Action on Hearing Loss staff.

Other services are provided from Old Waterside Health Centre, Glendermott Road, where anyone with a hearing loss can access information and support. Regular clinics are provided throughout the North West area where hearing aid users can learn how to get the most benefit out of their hearing aids and try out equipment to aid daily living. A partnership project with RNIB is also completing a 3 year programme of activities to ensure that services such as libraries and banks in Derry/Londonderry are accessible to deaf people, and that local people with hearing loss can learn skills, such as IT, to increase their confidence.

Tickets for ‘Decades’ (£10.50) are available from the Millennium Forum box office phone 028 71 264455.To find out more about Encóre Contemporary Choir, follow them on Facebook or via their website www.encore.org.uk
