Encóre Contemporary Choir has been invited to perform at the Culture of Compassion conference in front of the Dalai Lama.

Derry’s leading contemporary choir have been building an unsurpassed reputation since they formed in 2011 and are delighted to have the opportunity to be part of this once in a life time event.

The conference, organised by Derry-based charity Children in Crossfire, will be held in The Venue at Ebrington on April 18.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be the event’s keynote speaker and further guests will be announced prior to the conference

Musical Director of Encóre Contemporary Choir, Emmet Doherty, said this was an incredibly exciting time for the choir.

“It is such an immense honour for us to be asked to perform at such an important and prestigious event,” he said.

“Just to be able to attend this conference and to have the opportunity to hear the Dalai Lama speak is amazing, but to actually have the chance to sing for him is a true privilege.

“I know I speak for every single member of Encóre when I say that we are incredibly excited at being involved in an event of this magnitude.”

The Dalai Lama is patron of Children in Crossfire, a local charity whose international programme is dedicated to promoting early childhood care and development in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Emmet added: “ Encóre is also delighted to be able to support Children in Crossfire, a wonderful charity that does amazing work for children throughout the world.

“This is a very exciting time for Encóre Contemporary Choir and we have a busy year ahead. The choir has been up and running for two years and we have achieved so much in that time. I know we can look forward to even more success in the future, but I have no doubt in my mind that, no matter how much we achieve in the years ahead, this conference is going to be one of the mostmemorable events we will ever have the honour of performing at.”

Founder and Director of Children in Crossfire, Richard Moore, said: “Derry/Londonderry is known to be a musical city. This event will be streamed throughout the world and it is important we put our best foot forward.

“Encore Contemporary Choir are an excellent choir and a wonderful example of the talent we have in the city. I was delighted when Encore Contemporary Choir accepted Children in Crossfire’s invite to sing as I have no doubt all those attending the event and joining via the internet, will be impressed by them.
